European New Car Sales Grow 5.9% in Jul; Tesla's Mkt Shr Lags Behind BYD

New car sales in Europe grew by 5.9% to 1.09 million units in July, European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) data showed. Tesla's (TSLA.US) market share declined for the seventh consecutive month, falling behind competitor BYD COMPANY (01211.HK).

Last month, new car sales for Volkswagen and Renault added 11.6% and 8.8% YoY, respectively, while Stellantis saw a decline of 1.1%.

Tesla's sales plummeted by 40.2%, with its market share dropping from 1.4% a year earlier to 0.8%. In contrast, BYD's sales surged by 225.3%, achieving a market share of 1.2%.
